The product For your peace of mind
Safety Turtle helps to protect your children.
Safety Turtle is the only safety device that
protects your children from water accidents by sounding an alarm the
instant he or she falls or ventures into the water.
Safety Turtle is an effective "last line of
defense" to protect your children. Simply place the Turtle wristband
around your child's wrist. If he or she falls into the water, a loud alarm
will sound at the Base Station.
Safety Turtle alarm system consists of:
 | Base Station (AC powered) |
 | One or more Turtle wristbands |
|
|
The
Base Station should be placed inside the house, within 100 feet (30 meters)
of the pool.
Turtle wristbands are available in six att ractive colors. Any number of
Turtles of the same color can be used with one Base Station.
For buying convenience, the Turtle wristbands and the Base Station are
packaged separately.
Please be aware that Safety Turtle is not
suitable for use in sea water and its effectiveness in pools decreases when
salt content exceeds 4000 ppm.

Safety First
For children and dog
All your safety concerns are addressed in the
design of
Safety Turtle.
 |
The Turtle wristband locks securely around your child's
wrist, using the key provided. |
 |
A loud alarm instantly sounds at the Base Station when
the Turtle is immersed in water. The alarm continues to sound until it is
reset. |
 |
Your child is protected even while the pool is in use
or is being cleaned. |
 |
The Turtles are permanently sealed and are rugged to
withstand children's play. |
 |
Children enjoy wearing the colorful Turtle wristbands.

REPEATER BASE STATION
The unique features of
Safety Turtle
make it convenient and easy to use.
 |
No installation in the pool is required.
|
 |
There is no need to turn the system off when the pool is in use or
when it is being cleaned. |
 |
Safety Turtle
can easily be taken to another pool, to a boat, or to the
cottage.
(Please be aware that Safety Turtle is not
suitable for use in sea water and its effectiveness in pools decreases
when salt content exceeds 4000 ppm.)
|
 |
Inserting a "Baby Turtle" plug into the Base Station sets it to
recognize Turtles of a matching color. By using different colors of Turtle,
neighbors can enjoy the benefits of
Safety Turtle
without triggering each other's alarms. A matching Baby Turtle is
included with each Turtle wristband. |

 |
The alarm volume can be reduced temporarily for testing.
|
 |
Spray from lawn sprinklers won't trigger the alarm.
|
 |
The Turtle has a battery life of at least four years when used every
day.

FRESH WATER SHORELINES
USING SAFETY TURTLE WITH FRESH WATER SHORELINES
The coverage of a shoreline will always be limited, because the Base Station
alarms on the presence, not the absence, of a signal. The User must be aware
of the limits of coverage.
In a clear line of site, with the Base Station at waist level or higher off
the ground, typical range is 150 ft. So a Base Station optimally situated at
a shoreline can normally cover 150 ft in each direction, for total of 300
ft.
If the Base Station is set back from the shoreline, shoreline coverage will
be reduced by:
the set back distance
blockage on the line of site
blockage from the building exterior [if located indoors]
Blockage on the line of site can also cause gaps in the continuity of
coverage.
In all cases and with all water hazards, coverage must be tested at set up
using test mode.
In the case of a water front, there are basically three options in setting
up.
Option 1 Locate Base Station in the residence. This is most suitable when
the residence is within 30 - 40 ft of the water and the line of site is
clear. Otherwise, shoreline coverage will be considerably reduced. The Base
Station should be high enough to clear any ridge blocking view of the
shoreline. Locating outside on a deck will provide best coverage. Follow
other instructions in User Guide.
Option 2 Locate Base Station(s) by shoreline, up to 300 ft. apart. This
provides up to 300 ft. of coverage per Base Station. Each Base Station
requires AC power and a canapé or enclosure that protects it from rain but
doesn't diminish loudness. The Base Station should be 3 ft or higher above
the ground, on a platform, or hanging. The alarm must be audible in the
residence, or as required by the caregiver(s).
Option 3 This overcomes the shoreline and audibility coverage limitations of
Options 1 and 2 respectively, but is more expensive. Primary set up is
identical to Option 2, except a Repeater Base Station(s) rather than Base
Station(s) is used. Once a Repeater Base Station reaches steady state alarm,
in less than 5 seconds, it transmits to a Remote Alarm Unit located in the
residence. Alarming thus occurs both at the shoreline and in the residence.
A longer cable from the 9 volt AC wall adapter is available to facilitate
Options 2 and 3.
If electricity is not available at the residence, a solar panel battery unit
is available to power the Base Station 24 hours a day. Alternatively, Turtle
Power can provide 9 hours per day operation, when charged nightly by the car
battery, using 12V Cigarette Lighter Adapter.

SALT WATER POOLS
USING SAFETY TURTLE IN SALT WATER POOLS
A higher concentration of salt in
your pool increases its conductivity, thus increasing the power loss of a
radio signal passing through a given height of water.
Above 4,000 ppm of salt, beeping in test mode may stop (indicating the
signal is lost) before the Turtle reaches the recommended test depth of 4 -
6 inches. If a child free falls into this pool, the Turtle may not have time
to transmit before the signal is effectively blocked. Using this simple,
conservative reasoning, our User Guide states "Do not use in sea water or in
pools with a salt concentration of more than 4000 ppm."
In practice, Safety Turtle functions effectively at salt concentrations
above 4000 ppm. Providing the Turtle is attached to your child's wrist,
i.e., not to another part of his/her anatomy or clothing, Safety Turtle will
still alarm reliably in salt chlorinated pools but possibly with delay. In
the eventuality a child drops quickly and fails to trigger the alarm on the
way down, buoyancy, weight distribution and involuntary arm movement of a
baby or toddler will still result in alarming within 5 - 10 seconds unless a
pool cover (or other entanglement) prevents the child from surfacing.
Most salt water chlorinator manufacturers recommend (for other reasons) that
salt concentration not exceed 3,600 ppm. Terrapin also recommends that your
salt concentration be measured and kept within recommended limits.
