March 31, 2 charged with abuse of pets in Plantation
Miami--Two Plantation women were arrested
Saturday evening and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty after
authorities found at least a dozen emaciated cats and dogs with no food or water
living in their duplex. Plantation Police Detective Steve Geller said neighbors
reported a foul smell in the neighborhood earlier in the day. About 6 p.m.,
officials from the Broward County Animal Care and Regulation Division approached
the duplex at 7200 and 7204 NW 16th St.

Florida--A severe outbreak of kennel cough
has canceled greyhound racing at three tracks across Florida and forced
quarantines at others. Races were canceled in Palm Beach, Sarasota and St.
Petersburg, and quarantines were imposed at many other tracks.

Associated Press--ATHENS, Ohio - A man was
using his free speech rights when he barked back at a police dog, a state
appeals court has ruled. The 4th Ohio District Court of Appeals upheld the
dismissal of charges against a man who answered the barks of Pepsie in this
southeast Ohio city in September 2001.

UK--Youngsters will get a warning first.
Youngsters who allow their dogs to foul in streets or parks are to be fined by a
west Wales council. Carmarthenshire Council says it will issue fixed penalties
of £25 to teenagers who fail to clean up after their pets.

March 28, Woman reports alleged dog fight, gets arrested
Telegraph--A Village Green woman who
picketed a residential street corner two weeks ago in protest of the Macon
Police Department was arrested Tuesday night for filing a false report of a
crime. Janice Hamlin, police said, called 911 and reported people in her
neighborhood were staging an illegal dog fight.

St. Petersburg Times--Hundreds of Tampa
Bay area residents have expressed interest in caring for the pets of military
men and women being sent overseas. More than 400 people have called the groups
organizing the effort. About two dozen have filled out an application, but

Mauling Death May Test New Law
LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- A 3-year-old boy
playing in a backyard was fatally mauled by a pit bull Tuesday, according to
fire and sheriff's office spokesmen. The child's mother, who was doing laundry
inside a friend's house, allowed her son to go out to the backyard and play with
the three resident pit bulls, Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said.

psychotherapist Elani Aquino, it was a mottled, 23-pound dog that helped Aquino

tough divorce, immediately went to Aquino’s dog, a reed-thin whippet named Tule,
and began to tuck a blanket around her.

Charlotte.com--Deposit drops to $600, still more
than typical in private apartments. Charlotte public housing residents will pay
less to keep dogs and cats under a new policy approved by the Charlotte Housing
Authority Tuesday. The board voted unanimously to cut the refundable pet deposit
from $1,500 to $600.

old when he joined the Everett Police Department. He was 8 years old when he
